Newport Bayfront Restroom Mural

Newport, Oregon

An immersive coastal scene wrapping a restroom structure, built from whimsical, flowing linework and bright, high-contrast color. Wave forms connect each wall into one continuous underwater narrative — a vibrant whale as the focal point, with an octopus, seabird, otter, and coastal plant life highlighting the diversity of the bayfront ecosystem.

Bold, clean, graphic shapes stay visible in Newport's overcast coastal light, while subtle celestial elements and a glowing horizon add a sense of magic. The goal: turn a functional structure into a memorable public experience that reflects Newport's identity and invites both locals and visitors to pause, explore, and photograph the space.

Downtown Bend Community Mural

Bend, Oregon

Designed to celebrate the spirit of Downtown Bend through a vibrant, story-driven composition that blends music, outdoor adventure, and community connection. Flowing, rhythmic shapes inspired by sound waves tie together Bend's identity — live music and creative culture alongside its iconic natural landscapes — moving from mountains and rivers into everyday joy: surfing the river, biking local trails, walking dogs, gathering with others.

The palette is bold, playful, and high-contrast, built to create an eye-catching, "Instagrammable" landmark. Stylized but recognizable figures keep the piece approachable, turning a blank wall into a destination that invites people to stop, explore, and connect — with the art, and with each other.

The roadrunner

A desert bird that keeps finding its way into the work — as flat digital color, hand-painted wood panel, and mural.

One bird, three lives

The roadrunner started as a flat digital piece — a study in warm pink and cool sky-blue built for print and sticker work. It later became a physical, hand-painted wood panel, cut to the bird's silhouette. Wherever it lives — wall, window, or screen — it's become a kind of signature.

About

Alicia Ard

Alicia Ard is an illustrator and muralist with a background in graphic design and a lasting pull toward folk art. She's most recently been drawn to the hours when the world goes quiet — moonlit forests, desert nightfall, the small wild things that move through both. Her work spans digital illustration, hand-painted wood panels, murals, and printed goods, built from the same instinct for color, pattern, and creatures with a bit of myth in them. She draws inspiration from the landscapes she visits.

She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design, with a minor in Marketing, from the University of Southern Mississippi, and has worked as a contract graphic designer and illustrator since 2014. She's also studied signage and typography in London.

She's currently traveling through California, taking on commissions, murals, and collaborations that call for a bit of nocturnal, wonder-filled color.
